Creative Self Mentoring
Anxiety - a Brief Summary
When
anxiety takes over, we enter into a state of distress - one that can grow so intense as to essentially take over, and one that can involve:
- physical features, such as palpitations, sweating, and “butterflies” in the stomach; and
- emotional effects like paralysing fear and an intense sense of being unsafe
So if
anxiety literally takes over - and causes us essentially to lose ourselves - is there a way we can recover ourselves, as in our real selves?
In this website (and in the accompanying book, The Creative Self), you'll find a technique
for doing just that.
The technique
builds on the insight that the fear that lies behind anxiety behaves within our mind like a despot or tyrant, and takes the captaincy of our own ship by snatching it from us.
To make matters worse, fear
does this by going “behind our back”, invading our thoughts, beliefs
and even personality
through colonising our unconscious mind.
That’s why the page illustrating this technique
shows fear
ruling us by staying behind us - and out of conscious view.
While fear
and anxiety keeps us transfixed by “fear objects” (the persons, things or situations that we find ourselves scared of), our escape from the torment comes from regaining ownership of where we direct our focus.
The key is that need to “turn around” so that we're able to face fear
full on. Immediately that we do this, fear
- along with any accompanying anxiety
- “shrink” back down to manageable proportions (fear
being represented below as a rabbit that goes from scary to tame just as soon as the human being turns around to face it).

Mentoring for Anxiety
I developed the technique described above as an effective relief for people suffering anxiety - in my clinical practice as a family doctor.
If anxiety is something that holds you back or causes you distress and harm, or if you know or care for someone who does, then I very much hope that the website and the book can be of help to you.
At the same time, if you're interested in something a little more interactive - and relevant to you personally - then you are very welcome to attend an anxiety mentoring session.
Mentoring can be offered:
- on a one-to-one basis, whether face-to-face in Cambridge or London, U.K., or online.
- as part of an online anxiety workshop.
For an introductory period,
anxiety workshops are offered
free of charge.
To book one-to-one mentoring or a free online workshop, simply fill in your contact details below and I will be in touch.
